Meet Adam Carper

Meet Adam Carper, CFO of DCI Group, Inc. in Des Moines, IA and CFMA 40 Under 40! He sat down with us to share a little more about his life.

Q: Do you have children?
A: I have three children Brooklyn (7), Jack (5) and Zac (2). Being their dad is the most rewarding thing in my life.

 

Q: What’s your favorite holiday to celebrate?
A: Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday – eat delicious food, spend time with family and friends, there are football games to watch, and you don’t have to buy presents for anyone.

 

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A: My father kept it short and simple, “don’t half-ass anything you do”

 

Q: How did you get into accounting?
A: I have a knack for numbers and my mother was my accounting teacher in high school, so I was taught the difference between debits and credits at an early age!

 

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: I enjoy coming to work every day and having the opportunity to work alongside my co-workers. Everyone shares the vision of running a successful company and doing what is best for our customers.

 

Q: What energizes you at work?
A: I am motivated by delivering high-quality work and ensuring others know they can trust me to get the job done.

 

Q: When did you become a CFMA member?
A: Started my membership 5 years ago as I entered the construction industry in my current role. One of the best decisions I have made from both a professional and personal standpoint.

 

Q: What career advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
A: Don’t underestimate the power of eye contact, a firm handshake and treating others with dignity and respect.

 

Q: Are you married?
A: Been married to my wife Lindsay for 9 years. Best decision I’ve ever made.

 

Q: What was your first job?
A: When I was in 3rd grade, I had a weekly paper route delivering to 120 homes. Made $6 a week and I thought I was rich!
